CUR elevates travel with two new passenger boarding bridges

Willemstad, September 9, 2025 – Curaçao International Airport | CUR is entering an exciting new chapter, with several major initiatives underway that will shape its future and strengthen its role in the community. Over the coming months, these important milestones will be shared, starting now with a major step forward in the passenger experience. Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP), the operator of CUR, has purchased two state-of-the-art passenger boarding bridges, designed with full glass walls and air conditioning, offering travelers both comfort and an unforgettable view of Curaçao’s natural beauty as they transition between the terminal and their aircraft.

This year, two existing bridges will be replaced with the new glass models, and gradually, until 2027, all current bridges will be upgraded to these modern designs.

These new bridges are more than just infrastructure upgrades, they represent CAP’s ongoing commitment to service excellence, sustainability, and creating a sense of place for everyone traveling through Curaçao.

A unique Curaçao experience
With modern air conditioning, the bridges provide a pleasant environment regardless of weather conditions outside. The glass walls give passengers a chance to enjoy the island’s sunshine and ocean view on the Airside, even during boarding. For many, this will be their first or last impression of Curaçao, transforming a normally functional part of the airport journey into a memorable moment that reflects the island’s warm and vibrant spirit.

Part of a larger vision
The new bridges are part of CAP’s continuous improvement strategy to modernize airport facilities, invest in sustainability, and strengthen the airport’s role as a gateway to Curaçao. As part of its ongoing ESG commitments to becoming a greener airport, CAP will also use these bridges as a pilot project for tinted glass technology. By reducing solar heat gain, the tinted glass will help lower energy consumption for cooling, contributing to greater efficiency and reduced environmental impact. This combination of innovation, comfort, and sustainability reflects not only CAP’s forward-looking vision but also a deep sense of pride in shaping an airport that Curaçao can call its own.

“These new boarding bridges embody what we want every traveler to feel, comfort, efficiency, and a unique connection to Curaçao,” said CAP CEO, Mr. Ricardo Hernández. “It’s an investment not only in infrastructure but also in the passenger experience and in the future of our airport.”

The new bridges arrived today, marking the start of their installation process, which is scheduled for completion by the end of October 2025. Passengers are expected to enjoy them shortly thereafter.

Through this initiative, CAP reaffirms its dedication to investing in people, infrastructure, and experiences that make CUR a welcoming hub for both residents and visitors.

CUR Airport celebrates historic milestone: 2 million passengers in 2024

Willemstad, Curaçao, December 27, 2024 – Today, Curaçao International Airport (CUR), managed by Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP), proudly celebrated an extraordinary milestone: the departure of the 2 millionth passenger for the year 2024. This achievement marks the first time in the airport’s history that it has welcomed over 2 million passengers in a single year, a remarkable testament to the growth and resilience of Curaçao’s aviation sector and tourism industry since the pandemic.

The 2 millionth passengers, Mrs. Kathleen Nelson and Mr. Stephen Bruce Nelson from Michigan, USA, were visiting Curaçao for the very first time. The couple initially traveled with United Airlines to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, before continuing their journey aboard Azul Airlines to Curaçao. Now, they are on their way back home, flying with Azul Airlines to Fort Lauderdale. Mrs. Nelson, a former travel agency professional, had been searching for the best snorkeling destinations in the Caribbean when Curaçao’s name appeared at the top of her list. Inspired by its reputation for crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life, the couple decided to experience Curaçao’s underwater paradise for themselves.

In honor of this special occasion, the Nelson family was warmly greeted by the Minister of Traffic, Transportation, and Urban Planning, also Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Charles Cooper; Policy Advisor for the Economic Cabinet, Mr. Raymond Jamanika; Managing Director of Curaçao Airport Holding (CAH), Mr. Wilhelmus Ignacio; Curaçao Tourist Board (CTB) Director, Mr. Muryad de Bruin; CEO of the Curaçao Hospitality and Tourism Association (CHATA), Ms. Anuschka Cova; and CEO of CAP, Mr. Jonny Andersen.

“Achieving 2 million passengers in one year is an extraordinary milestone that reflects the trust and loyalty of our travelers, the commitment of our airline partners, the cooperation and hard work from our government and our dedicated partners CAH, CTB and CHATA, along with the dedication of our entire team,” said Jonny Andersen, CEO of CAP. “This achievement underscores the strong growth trajectory of our airport and the increasing appeal of Curaçao as a premier travel destination.”

This unprecedented growth has been fueled by an increase in flight frequencies from key airlines such as Avianca, Delta, and Azul, as well as the addition of new destinations like Brussels (TUI), Fort Lauderdale (Azul), and Medellín (Wingo). The holiday season has further amplified passenger traffic, with peak days, including December 20, 28, and January 5, expected to see daily volumes surpassing 8,500 passengers.

To support this surge in passenger numbers, CAP has implemented measures to enhance the travel experience. These include streamlined operations and close collaboration with stakeholders to ensure smooth airport processes during this busy period. “While high volumes may lead to occasional queues, our teams are working tirelessly to deliver a seamless and enjoyable travel experience for all passengers,” Andersen added.

The 2 millionth passenger milestone is not only a celebration of the airport’s growth but also a reflection of the island’s increasing prominence on the global tourism map. Curaçao International Airport remains committed to providing world-class service and fostering connectivity that benefits both residents and visitors alike.

Congratulations once again to Mr. and Mrs. Nelson for being part of this historic moment. Curaçao Airport Partners extends its heartfelt gratitude to all travelers, airline partners, dedicated partners and stakeholders who contributed to making this landmark achievement possible. Here’s to continued success and growth in the years ahead!

CUR Airport to celebrate historic milestone: 2 million passengers in 2024

Willemstad, Curaçao, December 19, 2024 – Curaçao International Airport (CUR), managed by Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP), is on track to reach a groundbreaking milestone this month: 2 million passengers in a single year. This achievement marks a historic moment for the airport and the island of Curaçao, showcasing the remarkable growth and success of its aviation sector.

The first 15 days of December 2024 alone have witnessed a staggering 27% increase in departing passengers compared to the same period last year. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays remain the busiest days, with peak hours concentrated between 1:00 PM and 5:00 PM.

As we approach the holidays and the full implementation of the winter schedule on December 19, we anticipate processing an average of 7,500 passengers daily, split between arrivals and departures,” said Jonny Andersen, CEO of CAP. “On peak days, such as December 20, 28, and January 5, passenger numbers are expected to climb even higher, reaching 8,500 per day. Achieving 2 million passengers in one year is an extraordinary milestone, reflecting the trust of our passengers and the dedication of our entire team and partners.”

This unprecedented growth is fueled by an additional KLM flight starting December 19 for the holiday season, increased frequencies from airlines such as Avianca, Delta, and Azul, and new destinations like Brussels (TUI), Fort Lauderdale (Azul), and Medellín (Wingo).

Passenger traffic traditionally spikes around December 19, coinciding with school vacations. This year is no exception, with record-breaking arrivals expected this weekend. Passengers staying for 7 to 10 days will likely contribute to elevated departure peaks throughout the holiday season and into the first two weeks of January 2025.

To manage this surge, Curaçao Airport Partners has implemented measures to enhance the passenger experience, including streamlined operations and collaborations with key stakeholders. “While high volumes may lead to some queues, our teams are working diligently to ensure a smooth travel experience,” Andersen added.

In preparation for the busy season, CAP hosted an Executive Aviation Breakfast this week, bringing together key stakeholders to strengthen collaboration and address operational priorities. The meeting focused on actionable plans, solidified agreements, and assigned responsibilities to ensure seamless operations for passengers and airlines alike.

“This holiday season, CUR Airport is committed to delivering excellence and efficiency,” Andersen concluded. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to travelers for their cooperation and wish everyone a joyful and memorable holiday season.”

As Curaçao Airport Partners prepares to celebrate this record-breaking achievement, the 2 millionth passenger milestone serves as a testament to the island’s growing appeal as a premier travel destination and the airport’s dedication to world-class service.

CUR Airport breaks ground on new Tour Bus Stop with CWM

Willemstad, Curaçao, September 19, 2024

Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP), in collaboration with Curaçaose Wegenbouw Maatschappij (CWM), one of its esteemed shareholders, marked an important milestone today with the groundbreaking for the new tour bus stop at CUR | Curaçao International Airport. This development is a key part of CAP’s ongoing efforts to enhance the airport’s infrastructure and improve the overall passenger experience, as well as part of a broader initiative to redesign and upgrade its parking facilities.

The project comes in response to the unexpected surge in passenger numbers over the past year, which exceeded all initial forecasts. This rapid growth led to increased curbside congestion due to the rising number of tour buses. In an effort to tackle these challenges and prepare for continued growth, CAP’s own team has redesigned the parking areas, and in partnership with CWM, is creating a designated tour bus stop within the parking lot. This new area will help streamline traffic flow and enhance the overall passenger experience.

CEO of CAP, Jonny Andersen, highlighted the importance of the project in his remarks:
“Our airport has experienced incredible growth in recent months, and with that growth has come the need for strategic infrastructure improvements. The new tour bus stop is one of the many steps we are taking to enhance the passenger experience, especially as we prepare for the peak season later this year. This project is a testament to how important partnerships like the one we have with CWM are. When we come together and believe in each other’s capabilities, we can achieve even greater things for our airport and for Curaçao as a whole. We’re proud to work alongside CWM on this initiative, which is crucial to ensuring Curaçao International Airport remains a welcoming and efficient gateway for our island.”

The construction of the tour bus stop is expected to be completed by December 2024, in time for the busy travel season. The project will help streamline traffic flow, reduce congestion, and improve the overall experience for passengers, tour bus operators, and visitors to the island.

Today’s groundbreaking also featured the unveiling of CWM’s brand-new frees machine, a state-of-the-art piece of equipment which will play an essential role in the successful execution of the project.

CEO of CWM, Pierre Montesant, expressed his pride in introducing the innovative equipment:
“Innovation and durability are at the heart of our mission, and today, we are proud to present our newest addition—a state-of-the-art, sustainable milling machine. Not only is this machine powerful and efficient, but it is also eco-friendly, featuring low emissions and energy-efficient operation that help minimize our ecological footprint. Its design is especially close to our hearts, as it celebrates the beauty of Curaçao, showcasing images that reflect the vibrant culture and natural wonders of our island. Every time this machine goes to work, it will remind us of our pride and dedication to investing in Curaçao’s future. We deeply value our collaboration with Curaçao Airport Partners and look forward to continuing to build a better Curaçao together.”

CAP extends its gratitude to all stakeholders, tour bus operators, and the wider airport community for their patience and support as the airport continues to enhance its facilities to meet the growing demands of Curaçao’s tourism sector.
