Speech Ricardo Hernández, CEO CAP: Today we celebrate who we are, not what we say.

Curaçao Airport Community
Good afternoon to the entire airport community of Curaçao. To those behind the counters, those walking the terminal, those working in the darkness of early mornings while passengers sleep, and those who smile even when they’re tired, this moment is yours.

What is Skytrax?
For those who may not know in detail, Skytrax is the world’s leading authority in evaluating airports and airlines. It is not a popularity contest or a social media survey. It is an independent organization based in London, globally recognized, that evaluates more than 550 airports worldwide through millions of real passenger surveys. Its awards are, in the aviation industry, what the Oscars are to film: the standard by which we are all measured.

And this week, for the first time in this airport’s history, Curaçao won the Skytrax Award for Best Airport Staff in Central America and the Caribbean.

“We didn’t win because we said it in a manual, a presentation, or a committee. We won because we lived it, every day, in every interaction with every passenger.”

This recognition is not just ours. It is a message Curaçao sends to the world. When a passenger arrives on this island, from Europe, from the Americas, from any corner of the planet, the first thing they encounter is not the beach or the sun: it’s us. We are the first impression of this land. And today, the world confirms that that impression is extraordinary.

For the regional aviation industry, this award repositions Curaçao. We are not only competing in routes or infrastructure. We are competing in something far more difficult to build: the human quality of the people who work here.

A service that acts, not just speaks
A year ago, when we began this transformation, we spoke a lot about values. About vision. About mission. We put words on the walls. But values don’t live on posters, they live in the decisions we make when no one is watching.

Excellent service is not the one with the longest protocol. It is not the one that can recite rules by heart. It is the one that sees a lost passenger and walks with them instead of pointing the way. It is the one that notices a tired family with children and finds a way to ease their journey. It is the one that solves before being asked.

“The best service doesn’t wait for instructions. It sees the problem, takes ownership, and solves it. That is the standard we have built together.”

There is a fundamental difference between two types of people in service. The first reacts: they wait for the problem, apply the procedure, close the ticket. The second anticipates: they were already thinking about the passengers before they arrived. They had already foreseen the issue. They already had the solution ready. You are the second type. Skytrax saw it. Passengers felt it. And today we celebrate it.

Our service does not demand. It does not theorize. It does not look for excuses. Our service acts. And that, this philosophy of action, is the hardest thing to teach and the most powerful to have.

The road ahead
Winning an award like this is not an endpoint. It is confirmation that we are on the right path. And it is also a responsibility. The next passenger who walks through those doors does not know we won this award. They only know how we treat them today.

That is the beauty of this work: it renews itself every hour. Every flight is a new opportunity to be exactly who we are.

To each and every one of you: thank you. Not for doing your job, but for going beyond it. For choosing, every day, to be the best version of what this airport can be.

“Today Curaçao tells the world: planes don’t just land here. People do, and we welcome them the way they deserve.”

Congratulations to the entire Curaçao Airport Community!

Curaçao Airport Partners presents “The Documentary – Tribute to Margareth Abraham”

With the co-sponsorship of CAH, DC-ANSP, and OX & WOLF

Willemstad, Curaçao — October 21, 2025

On Monday evening, October 20, 2025, The Movies Curaçao in Otrobanda hosted the heartfelt premiere of “The Documentary – Tribute to Margareth Abraham,” directed by Curaçao’s own Selwyn de Wind. This moving film stands as a loving tribute to the remarkable life, courage, and legacy of Margareth Abraham, whose heroism continues to inspire more than five decades later.

Margareth Abraham was one of the heroic flight attendants aboard ALM Flight 980, which departed from New York’s JFK International Airport bound for St. Maarten on May 2, 1970. When the aircraft was forced to ditch near the coast of St. Croix, Margareth selflessly assisted passengers to safety, putting their lives before her own. At just 24 years old, she made the ultimate sacrifice, a true act of bravery and compassion that has forever etched her name in our hearts.

To honor her memory, the address of the Curaçao International Airport was named Margareth Abraham Plasa by the Government of the Netherlands Antilles back then, ensuring her legacy remains an integral part of our island’s aviation history.

Presented by Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP), with the valued co-sponsorship of Curaçao Airport Holding (CAH), Dutch Caribbean Air Navigation Service Provider (DC-ANSP), and OX & WOLF, the premiere brought together a deeply moved audience, including the Abraham family and friends, the film’s cast and collaborators, and distinguished guests such as the acting Governor of Curaçao, H.E. Michele Russel-Capriles.

It was a night filled with emotion, gratitude, and pride. Through heartfelt interviews and never-before-seen insights, the documentary tells Margareth’s story through the voices of those who knew her best, family members, close friends, colleagues, and even her former fiancé, Mr. Robby Schouten. Their words offered a touching portrait of a young woman whose strength, warmth, and humanity defined her heroism on that tragic day in 1970.

This film follows another meaningful tribute unveiled previously at Curaçao International Airport, the mural of Margareth Abraham, painted by local artist Bagira, symbolizing her eternal light and the profound impact she continues to have. On that day, CAP made a promise to keep her legacy alive, and this documentary fulfills that promise with heart and reverence.

At the end of the screening, CAP surprised the family and friends with a very special announcement: our commitment does not end here, it continues. Starting next year, CAP will introduce ‘The Margareth Abraham Scholarship’ as an annual initiative to honor her legacy by supporting and inspiring the next generation. More details about this scholarship will be shared in the first quarter of 2026.

The entire Curaçao community will also have the opportunity to experience this touching story. “The Documentary – Tribute to Margareth Abraham” will be showing from October 21 at The Movies Curaçao, in both Punda and Otrobanda, and during the Krioyo Film Festival at Caribbean Cinemas, Sambil, from October 27 to November 5, 2025.

CAP extends its heartfelt gratitude to our valued co-sponsors CAH, DC-ANSP, and OX & WOLF for their generous support in making this project possible. We also express deep appreciation to Selwyn de Wind, Sulin Passial, and the Pantalla Chika team for their dedication and passion, to each member of the cast for their courage in sharing this painful yet powerful story, to all other collaborators who provided vital information and documentation in the realization of this documentary. Without them, this meaningful tribute would not have been possible.

This documentary is more than a film, it is a lasting celebration of Margareth Abraham’s life, her heroism, and the love she continues to inspire. Through this work, her spirit lives on, reminding us all of the power of compassion, courage, and selflessness.

Airports Council International – Latin America and the Caribbean (ACI-LAC) is the association representing airports in the region. It provides a strong collaborative platform through its specialized committees, which include, among others, Environment & Sustainability, Safety, Communications & Marketing, Economics & Commercial, and Human Resources. As a committed member airport, CUR actively participates in all these committees, contributing to advancing best practices across the industry. The strong network and relationships built among peers in this sector are equally important, as they cultivate trust, collaboration, and the exchange of knowledge that ultimately strengthen the entire aviation community.

Workers are the most important asset of airports. By developing skilled personnel, airports can take on the challenge of enhancing their growth and development. The ACI-LAC Human Resources Committee provides a platform for discussion of key issues and the exchange of best practices to improve standards of excellence among airports in the region.

The timing of this meeting was particularly relevant for Curaçao, as CAP is currently undergoing its largest recruitment drive to date. The forum’s focus on leading through change, building inclusive practices across generations, and developing practical strategies for workforce management and training aligned seamlessly with CAP’s ongoing efforts to attract, train, and retain talent. This exchange of knowledge provided valuable insights that will support CAP in shaping a resilient and future-ready workforce.

The meeting welcomed participation from a wide range of member airports, including Aeropuerto de Tocumen, Aeropuerto Ecológico de Galápagos, Aeropuerto Punta Cana, Aeropuertos Uruguay, Aruba Airport Authority, CACSA – Cuba, CORPAC – Cuenca, Curaçao Airport Partners, ECASA – Cuba, Lima Airport Partners, OLC, OPAIN, Quiport – Quito Airport, TAGSA – Guayaquil, and Vinci Brasil.

Beyond the committee’s working sessions, CAP proudly showcased Curaçao to all participants. Attendees had the opportunity to experience the beauty of the “Dushi Island,” immersing themselves in Curaçao’s rich culture, heritage, cuisine, and warm hospitality. This cultural exchange further strengthened professional ties while highlighting Curaçao as both a hub of aviation excellence and a vibrant destination.

Willemstad, September 10, 2025 – Marking another significant milestone, Curacao Airport Partners (CAP) has launched its largest recruitment initiative to date, aiming to fill over 100 positions by the end of the year. The focus is on key operational functions that are vital to airport safety and service quality, including airport police officers, screening officers, firefighters, apron bus drivers, parking lot agents, and other essential support roles.

To date, CAP has successfully filled the first wave of vacancies and expects to double this number in the coming weeks. Onboarding sessions are taking place twice a month, ensuring that new team members are integrated smoothly and efficiently.

This remains an ongoing effort, with intensive recruitment continuing throughout October and the months ahead. While not all positions have been filled yet, CAP’s focus remains firmly on reaching its hiring targets as quickly as possible.

As part of its ongoing ESG commitments, CAP is prioritizing recruitment to strengthen its workforce, support the community’s economic and social development, and build a stronger connection between the airport and those it serves.

Alongside external recruitment, several internal promotions have also been completed, underscoring the company’s commitment to developing its people and creating career growth opportunities. These initiatives are part of CAP’s broader strategy to in-source critical functions and provide the highest level of service to passengers and partners.
